Some athletes carry good luck charms.  Some wear a cross or medal that holds special meaning.  As she prepares for what may be her golden moment at the 2016 Olympic Games, nineteen year old gymnast Simone Biles has packed a rosary in her bag.

Simone Biles, four time United States Champion and three time World Champion, has the confidence needed to compete in the Olympic Games.   She also has a rosary to remind her of life beyond sports.

When asked what she would be packing for her trip to Rio, the gymnast answered that there would be a rosary in the duffel bag she carries on the competition floor.  She told US Weekly, “My mom, Nellie, got me a rosary at church. I don’t use it to pray before a competition. I’ll just pray normally to myself, but I have it there in case.” *

When the Olympic Games begin on August 5,  Simeon Biles will have a rosary in her hand.

Sweet story, and Mary is always sweet friend (as well as motherly), an ever appropriate advocate/companion/protectress in all her names and roles — one hand holding Jesus’, the other holding ours.
