A Rosary Made of Shells

6 Dec

shells  Throughout history, the faithful have sought ways to count their prayers.  Before beginning a journey, some placed stones in their pockets and tossed one along the road with each prayer said.  Shells from the sea were also used as counters.

The seashell rosary pictured is a remembrance of this tradition.  Handmade in the Philippines, each shell marks a prayer. The white shells mark the Hail Marys and the brown shells mark the Our Fathers.

The sea shell rosary is very unique. I have a rosary that was brought to me from Hawaii and on the beads are painted flowers like on leis. It also is very unique.
