Souvenir Rosaries of Pope Francis’ Visit to Philadelphia

18 Sep

Pope2 Pope Francis will arrive in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 26, 2015.  The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul is prepared for the pope’s arrival and the mass he will celebrate there.

Pope41Pope Francis is coming to Philadelphia as part of The World Meeting of Families, an event which is held every three years.  The symbol for the 2015 World Meeting of Families is a portrait of an extended family, the Holy Family of  Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, as well as Anne and Jochaim, parents of Mary.  The original painting, completed by Pennsylvania artist Neilson Carlin, will hang on the altar of the cathedral when the pope celebrates mass.

Pope4Banners welcoming Pope Francis line the streets of Philadelphia.

Knots1Pope Francis has encouraged devotion to Mary, Undoer of Knots. To honor Pope Francis, an exhibit has been constructed outside the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul.  Visitors are encouraged to write their prayer requests and concerns on strips of cloth which they tie to a wall.  Others are then invited to untie the knot and weave the strip of cloth into the grotto.

Pope1 Souvenir rosaries of the pope’s visit are available in the gift shop of Philadelphia’s Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul.
